Feeling Rusty

[Jolie school's chorus concert]

I have been very busy both at work and home since last Christmas. During this period of time, whenever I touched the camera, it's either for Jolie's activities or school's events. All these occasions are indoors.

Bags (1) -- Evolution

When you have a digital DSLR, you need a bag to carry it with you. But how to choose a perfect bag?

Protective Filters

[I mainly use B+W's and Hoya's filters.]

When I order a new lens, at the same time, I also order a protective filter for it. But do you really need protective filters on your lenses?

Third Party Lenses

[I bring my 3rd party lenses with me when I want to travel light]

Many people I know are very loyal to the brand. The two biggest groups, no surprise, are Canon and Nikon. Many people in Taiwan are crazy about Fuji and Olympus. More and more people also join Sony troop these days.

You might have known by now that the photo gears that cost the most are lenses. Generally speaking, each camera should use lenses from the same brand. Take Canon and Nikon as examples, they use different kinds of mounts so their lenses can not be exchanged. But there are some companies who only make lenses for these name brand cameras. Lenses from these companies are called "third party" lenses. The biggest third party lens brands are: Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina.

Canon Lens Family

[My 30D with EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 attached]

Let's talk about the lenses! Canon used to have only one product line - the ultimate EF family. Entering the digital era, Canon started to manufacture crop body cameras, at that time, it rolled out another product line - EF-S family.

Crop Factor

[My old Digital Rebel is a crop body camera (sold already)]

Ray wanted me to write some blog entries in English couple of years back. I didn't feel very comfortable about it. But recently when discussing things with Jess and Jon, they've never picked on my poor English so that's big encouragement. I also thought, if my English is really hard to understand, Ray can be the translator, he must understand my Chinese-style English.

I actually wanted to discuss Canon lens lineup in the very beginning, but in the middle of it, I found out it's very hard to talk about lenses without talking about digital camera bodies first.
